Darwin Oak is safe!
During our last Canopy member's Zoom meeting we were joined by tree campaigner and champion Rob McBride and he had good news!
Huge amounts of trees, including the 550 year old Darwin Oak were under threat by plans to build a a relief road in Shrewbury, which has now been scrapped. That's our kind of relief!
Rob explained that the plan was to spend an eye watering £250 million on the road and that £40 million of tax payers money had already been spent, without a spade hitting the ground. An enquiry into the plan and the money spent to date is now expected.
Huge congratulations to all those who campaigned to highlight this issue and to save the trees, including the impressive oak!
